Self-healing effect of damaged coatings via biomineralization by Shewanella putrefaciens

Xiangping Hao et al.

Summary: This study reported the self-healing effect of damaged epoxy coatings on carbon steels via biomineralization by Shewanella putrefaciens in artificial seawater. The biomineralization could repair the corrosion resistance of the scratched coatings, and the bacteria preferred to colonize in the coating scratch.

Synergistic effects of deposits and sulfate reducing bacteria on the corrosion of carbon steel

J. Yang et al.

Summary: The synergistic effects of deposits and sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) on the corrosion of carbon steel were investigated through experiments. The results showed that deposits and SRB contributed synergistically to both uniform and localized corrosion. The uneven distribution of iron sulfides produced by SRB promoted under-deposit corrosion (UDC), while deposits accelerated SRB corrosion due to UDC-induced accumulation of SRB.

Characterizations of the biomineralization film caused by marine Pseudomonas stutzeri and its mechanistic effects on X80 pipeline steel corrosion

Haixian Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of biomineralization film caused by marine P. stutzeri on the corrosion of X80 pipeline steel. The results show that the film is mainly composed of nano Fe3O4 and FeOOH, with particle sizes below 10 nm. The research provides insights into preparing nanomaterials through MIC caused by P. stutzeri.

Early corrosion behavior of X80 pipeline steel in a simulated soil solution containing Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

Yuxing Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion behavior of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) on steel without organic carbon source in simulated soil solution, finding that SRB can survive for a period without organic carbon but affects corrosion rates. It was also observed that the presence of dissolved oxygen (DO) influences the corrosion process.

Inhibition performance of benzimidazole derivatives with different heteroatoms on the under-deposit corrosion of carbon steel in CO2-saturated solution

L. Pang et al.

Summary: In this study, the inhibition performance of different benzimidazole compounds on under-deposit corrosion of carbon steel in CO2-saturated solutions beneath CaCO3 and SiO2 deposits was compared. It was found that 2-SH-BI had the highest inhibition efficiency, and the effectiveness of different inhibitors varied under different deposits.

Inhibiting corrosion of aluminum alloy 5083 through Vibrio species biofilm

Yu Gao et al.

Summary: Three representative Vibrio species exhibit profound inhibitory effect on the corrosion of AA5083 by forming mature biofilms that act as a diffusion barrier to prevent the penetration of corrosive chloride and consume oxygen, thus increasing the passive range and inhibiting localized attack on the surfaces of AA5083.
