Dysfunction of cAMP-Protein Kinase A-Calcium Signaling Axis in Striatal Medium Spiny Neurons: A Role in Schizophrenia and Huntington's Disease Neuropathology

Marija Fjodorova et al.

Summary: This study suggests that Huntington's disease and schizophrenia may share a common neuronal pathophysiology involving dysregulation of intracellular calcium homeostasis. However, reductions in protein kinase A signaling and abnormal dopamine/glutamate receptor signaling are primarily specific to medium spiny neurons.
