Label-free Assessment of the Nascent State of Rat Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Using Spontaneous Raman Microscopy

Masashi Takemura et al.

Summary: Spontaneous Raman microscopy can be used for label-free evaluation of the nascent state of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Raman spectra analysis showed that hepatic steatosis could be detected in the nascent state of NAFLD, while it was not visible in stained images. Early detection of lipid accumulation in fresh ex vivo livers was also possible using Raman microscopic analysis.
