Lichen-based critical loads for deposition of nitrogen and sulfur in US forests

Linda H. Geiser et al.

Summary: Critical loads are thresholds of atmospheric deposition below which harmful ecological effects do not occur. Lichen-based critical loads can foreshadow changes of other forest processes. Lower deposition levels are important for maintaining the ecological functioning of lichen communities.

Validation of IASI Satellite Ammonia Observations at the Pixel Scale Using In Situ Vertical Profiles

Xuehui Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that there is a correlation and consistency between the satellite ammonia observations from IASI version 3 and in situ measurements of NH3 columns. However, the agreement degrades when larger spatiotemporal windows are used. Additionally, using different data sources to generate products slightly improves the overall agreement of IASI data sets. However, uncertainties still exist due to sampling artifacts of airborne NH3 instruments.
