Helium stars exploding in circumstellar material and the origin of Type Ibn supernovae

L. Dessart et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction scenarios of different types of Ibn supernovae, revealing that the spectral features and luminosity performance vary depending on the eruptive mechanism, with most Ibn SNe likely originating from low-energy explosions and interactions in binary star systems.

A WC/WO star exploding within an expanding carbon-oxygen-neon nebula

A. Gal-Yam et al.

Summary: The final fate of massive stars and the compact remnants they leave behind are still unanswered questions in astrophysics. Observations of SN 2019hgp suggest that it is an explosion from a massive WC/WO star within a nebula composed of carbon, oxygen, and neon, indicating that massive Wolf-Rayet stars may be the progenitors of some rapidly evolving transients.

Modeling the signatures of interaction in Type II supernovae: UV emission, high-velocity features, broad-boxy profiles

L. Dessart et al.

Summary: The study investigates the diverse long-term radiative signatures of an interaction between a Type II supernova ejecta and circumstellar material, and finds that the interaction leads to the generation of absorption features in the spectral lines, with crucial signatures in the UV range that provide critical constraints to infer the mass-loss history and inner workings of core-collapse supernova progenitors at death.

Properties of Type Ibn Supernovae: Implications for the Progenitor Evolution and the Origin of a Population of Rapid Transients

Keiichi Maeda et al.

Summary: The paper presents a model for the interaction between the supernova ejecta and circumstellar matter (CSM) in type Ibn supernovae. The model explains the post-peak behavior commonly seen in the light curves and infers a rapid increase in the mass-loss rate as a generic property of the progenitors. The study also suggests the existence of a missing population of UV-bright rapid transients.

Statistical Properties of the Nebular Spectra of 103 Stripped-envelope Core-collapse Supernovae*

Qiliang Fang et al.

Summary: The analysis of the nebular spectra of 103 stripped-envelope supernovae revealed that deviation from spherical symmetry is a common feature for all types of SESNe, and there is a correlation between [O i] width and [O i]/[Ca ii]. The results suggest that oxygen-rich material tends to expand faster in objects with a more massive CO core, indicating a connection between ejecta geometry and the progenitor CO core mass.

Summary: We present observations of SN 2021csp, a newly identified type of supernova with unique carbon features and fast-evolving characteristics. The results suggest that its origin may be distinct from classical supernovae and more similar to other fast-evolving interacting transients. Possible progenitor scenarios are discussed.

Oxygen and calcium nebular emission line relationships in core-collapse supernovae and Ca-rich transients

S. J. Prentice et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationships between emission line properties of core-collapse supernovae and Ca-rich transients, and identifies differences between different transient classes. The results show that Type II supernovae have distinct line-flux ratios compared to stripped-envelope supernovae. The study also suggests the presence of an additional power source in more luminous stripped-envelope supernovae. The results provide insights into the origin of emission lines in supernovae and favor lower mass tracks for Type II supernovae. The flux ratios of some superluminous supernovae are similar to stripped-envelope supernovae when accounting for their longer rise times.

The Diverse Properties of Type Icn Supernovae Point to Multiple Progenitor Channels

C. Pellegrino et al.

Summary: This study presents a newly discovered class of transients called Type Icn supernovae (SNe Icn), characterized by their interaction with H- and He-poor circumstellar material. The sample includes two published objects and two objects not yet published in the literature. By fitting their bolometric light curves to a semianalytical model, the study infers low ejecta masses and Ni-56 masses for SNe Icn, suggesting that they cannot be powered by normal stripped-envelope supernova explosions. The study also suggests different progenitor scenarios for different SNe Icn based on their observed properties.

Nebular phase properties of supernova Ibc from He-star explosions

L. Dessart et al.

Summary: By conducting a set of 1D nonlocal thermodynamic equilibrium radiative transfer calculations, the study investigates the properties of nebular-phase Type Ibc supernovae. It is found that He stars synthesize less oxygen due to an enhanced mass loss rate, and the spectral properties of He stars with larger initial masses are similar to those of standard SNe Ibc.

SN 2020bqj: A Type Ibn supernova with a long-lasting peak plateau

E. C. Kool et al.

Summary: SN 2020bqj is a rare Type Ibn supernova with a long-duration peak plateau lasting 40 days, hosted by a faint low-mass galaxy. Its properties are peculiar compared to other SNe Ibn, but modeling suggests it can be powered by shock heating from SN ejecta-CSM interaction combined with radioactive decay. The similarities with SN 2011hw suggest a distinct progenitor scenario for this subclass.

The Nickel Mass Distribution of Stripped-envelope Supernovae: Implications for Additional Power Sources

Niloufar Afsariardchi et al.

Summary: In this study, the Ni-56 masses of 27 stripped-envelope supernovae (SESNe) were systematically studied, revealing that the use of Arnett's rule may lead to overestimation of M (Ni) for SESNe. A new model by Khatami & Kasen was introduced to improve M (Ni) measurements, by calibrating a dimensionless parameter beta based on observational data. The results show that SESNe have inherently different properties compared to hydrogen-rich Type II SNe, possibly due to variations in progenitor mass distributions or explosion mechanisms.
