The extreme super-eddington NLS1 RX J0134.2-4258-II. A weak-line Seyfert linking to the weak-line quasar

Chichuan Jin et al.

Summary: In this paper, we conducted a monitoring campaign on RX J0134.2-4258, one of the most super-Eddington narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies, from radio to X-rays. By analyzing its optical/UV spectra and broad-band spectral energy distribution, we found that the black hole mass of RX J0134.2-4258 is about 2 x 10^7 solar masses, with a mass accretion rate through the outer disc of approximately 20. The optical/UV lines of RX J0134.2-4258 resemble those from weak-like quasars, and it exhibits drastic X-ray variability. Comparison with other WLQs and NLS1s suggests a new category of weak-line Seyfert galaxies to describe RX J0134.2-4258.

Taming the derivative: Diagnostics of the continuum and Hβ emission in a prototypical Population B active galaxy

Swayamtrupta Panda et al.

Summary: This study reports preliminary results on analyzing the continuum and H beta light curves of the type-1 AGN NGC 5548. A clear signature of shallowing in the trend between the H beta and the continuum luminosities is observed, and it is successfully recovered using CLOUDY photoionization simulations. The study provides constraints on the BLR cloud density and recovers the BLR distances consistent with the H beta reverberation mapping estimates.

The Lick AGN Monitoring Project 2016: Dynamical Modeling of Velocity-resolved Hβ Lags in Luminous Seyfert Galaxies

Lizvette Villafana et al.

Summary: In this study, the velocity-resolved reverberation response of the H beta broad emission line in nine Seyfert 1 galaxies was modeled, providing insights into the geometry and structure of the low-ionization broad-line region (BLR) and the mass of the central supermassive black hole. It was found that the H beta BLR generally takes the form of a thick disk viewed at low to moderate inclination angles. The dependence of the line-profile shape on BLR structure and kinematics was investigated, with marginal evidence of an anticorrelation between the profile shape and the Eddington ratio. However, no luminosity-dependent trends were observed, suggesting diverse BLR structure and kinematics in AGNs.

Monitoring AGNs with Hβ Asymmetry. III. Long-term Reverberation Mapping Results of 15 Palomar-Green Quasars

Dong-Wei Bao et al.

Summary: In this third paper of the series, the results of the reverberation mapping campaign on active galactic nuclei with asymmetric H beta emission-line profiles are presented. Spectra from 15 Palomar-Green quasars obtained between the end of 2016 and May 2021 were used. The campaign combined long time spans with relatively high cadence, allowing for the measurement of H beta time lags and estimation of black hole masses. The study also revealed diverse geometry and kinematics of the broad-line region (BLR) through velocity-resolved lags.

A Pixon-based Method for Reverberation-mapping Analysis in Active Galactic Nuclei

Yan-Rong Li et al.

Summary: The proposed method uses the Pixon algorithm to adjust the resolution of each image pixel based on the information content, allowing for optimal use of measured data. The algorithm minimizes the number of pixons while providing acceptable descriptions within the accuracy allowed by noise, demonstrating feasibility and high performance compared to the maximum entropy method in reverberation mapping analysis.

Erin Kara et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant X-ray absorption and new blueshifted, broad, and narrow UV absorption lines in the luminous Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 817, indicating partial coverage of the central source by a dust-free, ionized obscurer. Despite the obscuration, correlations between UV and optical continuum reverberation were observed, as well as reverberation lags associated with the optical broad-line region.

High Metal Content of Highly Accreting Quasars

Marzena Sniegowska et al.

Summary: By analyzing UV spectra of extreme Population A quasars, it is possible to estimate the chemical abundances of the broad-line-emitting gas, with validity of intensity line ratios as metallicity indicators depending on physical conditions. Additionally, different dynamical conditions of the low-ionization component and the blueshifted excess suggest high metallicity values, potentially the highest along the quasar main sequence.

The Deviation of the Size of the Broad-line Region between Reverberation Mapping and Spectroastrometry

Xiaer Zhang et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the size deviations of six pairs of hydrogen lines in active galactic nuclei, finding significant deviations in the radius ratios of the same line. However, the ratios for the Pa alpha(SA)/H beta(RM) and H alpha(SA)/H beta(RM) pairs are closest to 1 with smaller uncertainties, making them ideal choices for the SARM project. These theoretical estimations pave the way for future measurements to further constrain the standard cosmological model.

Taking a Long Look: A Two-decade Reverberation Mapping Study of High-luminosity Quasars

Shai Kaspi et al.

Summary: Reverberation mapping (RM) has been used to study the relationship between AGN broad-line region (BLR) sizes, central black hole masses, and AGN luminosity. The study on luminous and high-redshift quasars found that BLR size scales with UV luminosity, and black hole mass scales with the square root of UV luminosity. There is significant scatter in the relation, potentially intrinsic to the AGNs.
