The Open Cluster Chemical Abundances and Mapping Survey. VII. APOGEE DR17 [C/N]-Age Calibration

Taylor Spoo et al.

Summary: Large-scale surveys provide an opportunity to investigate the evolution of our galaxy both chemically and kinematically, but determining reliable stellar ages remains a challenge. This study presents a new empirical relationship between open cluster stellar ages and the carbon-to-nitrogen abundance ratios, which can be used as a chemical clock to study the formation and evolution of field stars. The calibration is based on high-resolution spectroscopic data from the Open Cluster Abundances and Mapping survey.

BACCHUS Analysis of Weak Lines in APOGEE Spectra (BAWLAS)

Christian R. Hayes et al.

Summary: In this study, we utilized high signal-to-noise spectra data of approximately 120,000 giants to measure the chemical abundances of weak and blended species. By employing an updated version of the BACCHUS code and stellar parameters measured by APOGEE, we obtained precise measurements for Na, P, S, V, Cu, Ce, Nd abundances as well as C-12/C-13 isotopic ratios. The new catalog of chemical abundances provides significant improvements over previous methods and can be applied to a wide range of scientific applications.

Final Targeting Strategy for the SDSS-IV APOGEE-2S Survey

Felipe A. Santana et al.

Summary: APOGEE is a high-resolution, near-infrared, multi-epoch spectroscopic survey project of the Milky Way, with its second generation APOGEE-2 including an expansion to the Southern Hemisphere known as APOGEE-2S. This expansion allowed for a panoramic mapping of all main regions of the Milky Way, particularly through the unique ability of APOGEE to probe dust-hidden inner regions from the Southern Hemisphere. These modifications and final target selection strategies aim to effectively achieve the scientific objectives of the project.

Magnetic signatures on mixed-mode frequencies: I. An axisymmetric fossil field inside the core of red giants

L. Bugnet et al.

Summary: The research suggests that evolved solar-like stars may contain a significant magnetic field in their core, leading to asymmetries in mixed-mode frequency multiplets. The impact of the magnetic field on the interior of stars can be detected in seismic data, but only for small field amplitudes that do not affect the modes significantly.

The Gaia-ESO survey: Mixing processes in low-mass stars traced by lithium abundance in cluster and field stars

L. Magrini et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate mixing processes in low-mass stars by observing the behavior of lithium surface abundance after the main sequence. It uses data from Gaia-ESO IDR6 and Gaia EDR3s to analyze main-sequence, sub-giant, and giant stars. The comparison with stellar evolution models shows that rotation-induced mixing and thermohaline instability are key factors affecting lithium abundance trends.

Summary: The study found that about 35% of red clump (RC) stars have lithium abundances similar to or higher than red giant branch (RGB) stars, indicating a possible sign of fresh lithium production. However, lithium content in about 65% of RC giants could only be determined as upper limits, potentially hiding very low lithium content.
