Changing-look Event in NGC 3516: Continuum or Obscuration Variability?

Missagh Mehdipour et al.

Summary: The Seyfert-1 galaxy NGC 3516 has experienced significant spectral changes in recent years, particularly entering a low-flux state in 2017. By comparing with historical observations from 2006, it was found that the intrinsic bolometric luminosity of NGC 3516 was lower by a factor of 4-8 in 2017. The X-ray spectral variability of NGC 3516 on both short and long timescales can be explained by changes in the ionizing spectral energy distribution, which affect the ionization of the warm-absorber outflows and result in enhanced X-ray absorption.

Localizing narrow Fe Kα emission within bright AGN

Carolina Andonie et al.

Summary: This study clarifies the nature and origin of the narrow Fe K alpha emission in active galactic nuclei (AGN) through X-ray spectral, timing, and imaging analysis. The majority of the narrow Fe K alpha emission is found to originate from the outer broad line region or outer accretion disk.

Hard X-Ray Irradiation Potentially Drives Negative AGN Feedback by Altering Molecular Gas Properties

Taiki Kawamuro et al.

Summary: Investigating the impact of AGN X-ray irradiation on the ISM, we found spatial separation between X-ray irradiated gas and cold molecular gas in external regions, and a positive correlation between X-ray luminosity and CO (J = 2-1) luminosity in nuclear regions. The significant Fe-K alpha emissions and ratios of CO (J = 2-1) to HCN (J = 1-0) luminosities suggest a decrease in dense gas fraction with X-ray luminosity, supporting a negative AGN feedback scenario affecting star formation.

Reverberation Mapping of Changing-look Active Galactic Nucleus NGC 3516

Hai-Cheng Feng et al.

Summary: The study focused on the changes of broad emission lines in changinglook active galactic nuclei, presenting results from a 6-month long intensive monitoring campaign of Seyfert galaxy NGC 3516. The findings suggest a relatively constant broad-line region structure during the CL process, with time lags increasing towards negative velocity for both Hα and Hβ. The study also estimates the central black hole mass of NGC 3516 and supports the CL model of accretion rate changes.

Spatially resolved X-ray spectroscopy of the archetype type 2 active galactic nucleus NGC 1068 with Chandra

Ryo Nakata et al.

Summary: The spatial distributions of iron K alpha (Fe-K alpha) lines in the central 100 pc of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068 observed with Chandra are not isotropic. The analysis reveals that the hydrogen number density of the gas clouds responsible for the neutral Fe-K alpha line emission is estimated to be between 10(2)-10(3) cm(-3). The photoionization model is excluded from explaining the amount of highly ionized iron responsible for the observed Fe-K alpha lines.
