FAK, paxillin, and PI3K in ameloblastoma and adenomatoid odontogenic tumor

Ibrahim O. Bello et al.

Summary: Integrins serve the purpose of binding cells to the extracellular matrix in tissues, triggering downstream signaling cascades important for cell survival, proliferation, cytokine activation, and cytoskeleton reorganization. This study investigated the expression patterns of FAK, paxillin, and PI3K in ameloblastoma and adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT), finding different expression patterns of FAK and relatively similar patterns of paxillin and PI3K in both tumor types. The expression of these proteins in the enamel organ suggests their potential importance in odontogenesis, with strong FAK expression in some ameloblastomas and weak signals in all AOT cases.

Downregulation of E-cadherin in pluripotent stem cells triggers partial EMT

C. E. Aban et al.

Summary: Research using CRISPR interference system in human embryonic stem cells revealed that downregulation of E-cadherin leads to incomplete EMT, accompanied by molecular changes such as upregulation of SNAI1 and SNAI2, and downregulation of MALAT1 and LINC-ROR.

Caffeine Induces G0/G1 Cell Cycle Arrest and Inhibits Migration through Integrin αv, β3, and FAK/Akt/c-Myc Signaling Pathway

Pichitchai Meisaprow et al.

Summary: Caffeine treatment did not have direct cytotoxic effects on lung cancer cells but inhibited cell proliferation and induced cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase within 48 hours. Caffeine also reduced the metastasis-related capabilities of cancer cells, including filopodia formation, migration, invasion, and survival in an anchorage-independent manner. Additionally, caffeine altered integrin patterns and downregulated metastasis-associated integrins, leading to decreased downstream signaling pathways.

CAPE and Neuroprotection: A Review

Marwa Balaha et al.

Summary: CAPE, a hydrophobic bioactive polyphenolic ester found in propolis, has been extensively studied for its pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antifungal, antiproliferative, and antineoplastic properties. Studies have shown that CAPE has neuroprotective effects in various conditions and can protect neurons from oxidative stress, apoptosis dysregulation, and brain inflammation, making it a potential therapeutic agent for neurodegenerative disorders and other neurological diseases.

Summary: Our understanding of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) has evolved into a dynamic continuum, with metastable intermediate transition states playing a crucial role in cancer metastasis. Studies indicate that these transition states may have distinct advantages in cancer progression.

Anticancer Activity of Propolis and Its Compounds

Ewa Forma et al.

Summary: Propolis, a natural material produced by honey bees from various botanical sources, has therapeutic activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory effects, with potential benefits in inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and metastasis. Research suggests that propolis can also stimulate apoptosis, influence the tumor microenvironment, and potentially reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Silencing ZIC2 abrogates tumorigenesis and anoikis resistance of non-small cell lung cancer cells by inhibiting Src/FAK signaling

Aibin Liu et al.

Summary: ZIC2 was found to be upregulated in NSCLC tissues and high expression of ZIC2 correlated with worse overall and progression-free survival in NSCLC patients. Silencing ZIC2 inhibited tumorigenesis and reduced anoikis resistance in NSCLC cells. Further investigation revealed that silencing ZIC2 transcriptionally inhibited Src expression and inactivated steroid receptor coactivator/focal adhesion kinase signaling, thereby attenuating anoikis resistance in NSCLC cells.

Focal adhesion kinase inhibitor BI 853520 inhibits cell proliferation, migration and EMT process through PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in ovarian cancer

Hong Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the FAK inhibitor BI853520 suppresses cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT process in ovarian cancer cells through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. In vivo experiments confirmed that BI853520 treatment significantly reduced tumor growth and suppressed the activation of the signaling pathway.
