The Effects of Eccentric Web Openings on the Compressive Performance of Pultruded GFRP Boxes Wrapped with GFRP and CFRP Sheets

Emrah Madenci et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of web opening position, number, and reinforcement type on the load-carrying capacity and stability of pultruded fiber-reinforced polymer profiles. The results show that the height-centered openings in the middle of the web have the least effect, while off-center and eccentric openings significantly reduce the load-carrying capacity. Additionally, carbon-FRP reinforcement contributes more to the load-carrying capacity than glass-FRP.

Compressive Behavior of Pultruded GFRP Boxes with Concentric Openings Strengthened by Different Composite Wrappings

Ceyhun Aksoylu et al.

Summary: This paper experimentally investigates the effect of web openings on the response of PFRP composite profiles under compressive loads. The results show that the diameter of the hole and the type of CFRP- or GFRP-strengthening method applied are important parameters. PFRP profiles with openings are able to compensate for the reduction in load-carrying capacity, but the capacity significantly drops after a certain ratio. Moreover, profiles with CFRP wrapping are more likely to improve the load-carrying capacity compared to other wrappings.

Effect of Fiber Wrapping on Bending Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Filled Pultruded GFRP Composite Hybrid Beams

Lokman Gemi et al.

Summary: This paper presents experimental studies on the effect of FRP composite wrapping on the flexure performance of RC filled pultruded GFRP profile hybrid beams with damage analysis. The results show that the use of GFRP and CFRP composites for wrapping can significantly improve the structural performance of the beams, including maximum load-carrying capacity, initial stiffness, and ductility.

Effects of high pulling speeds on mechanical properties and morphology of pultruded GFRP composite flat laminates

Alexander Vedernikov et al.

Summary: By analyzing the relationship between pulling speed, morphology, and mechanical properties of pultruded glass fiber/vinyl ester resin composites, this study demonstrates the possibility of high-speed pultrusion for large cross-section profiles suitable for structural application. The results show that higher pulling speeds lead to the presence of bubbles, voids, and cracks, but significantly increase the output without compromising mechanical performance.

Shape memory behavior of unidirectional pultruded laminate

Roman Korotkov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the shape memory behavior of epoxy-based pultruded flat laminates reinforced with unidirectional glass fibers, showing the shape fixity and shape recovery ratios for different fiber orientations. The study also analyzed the performance of pultruded composite materials and laid the foundation for further studies on the simulation and optimization of pultrusion processes.

Experimental, analytical and numerical investigation of pultruded GFRP composite beams infilled with hybrid FRP reinforced concrete

Lokman Gemi et al.

Summary: This paper presents experimental, analytical, and numerical analyses on the behavior of pultruded GFRP composite beams infilled with hybrid fiber reinforced concrete under four-point loading. The study found that the pultruded profile and composite wrapping significantly improved the performance of the beams, with hybrid reinforcements being recommended for all cases. Detailed damage analyses were also provided.

Effects of additives on the cure kinetics of vinyl ester pultrusion resins

Alexander Vedernikov et al.

Summary: This study focuses on investigating the cure kinetics modeling of a vinyl ester pultrusion resin. By comparing 16 kinetic models, a model based on the n th-order autocatalytic reaction was found to have the best performance, with a proposed method to reduce errors resulting from simultaneous melting of additives. The research also demonstrates the significant influence of resin composition on the manufacturing process of composite materials.

Modeling Spring-In of L-Shaped Structural Profiles Pultruded at Different Pulling Speeds

Alexander Vedernikov et al.

Summary: This study successfully predicted spring-in phenomena in pultruded composite profiles through a numerical model, finding that increasing pulling speeds lead to higher levels of spring-in. The validated model demonstrated the possibility of maintaining the same level of spring-in at increased pulling speeds by using a post-die cooling tool or reducing the chemical shrinkage of the resin.
