Baicalin suppresses neuron autophagy and apoptosis by regulating astrocyte polarization in pentylenetetrazol-induced epileptic rats and PC12 cells

Ganggang Li et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the antiepileptic effect of baicalin. Results showed that baicalin reduced inflammation, improved behavior, and decreased seizures in rats by suppressing astrocyte autophagy and apoptosis. These findings suggest potential therapeutic effects of baicalin in epilepsy treatment.

Gene profiling of Toll-like receptor signalling pathways in neutrophils of patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: TLR signalling pathway genes were differentially regulated in neutrophils between cirrhosis and ACLF. In ACLF patients, defective expression of TLR3 and IFN, along with enhanced CD14 and IL10 expression, was characterized by transcriptional alterations of neutrophils.

The effect of codeine administration on oxidative stress biomarkers and the expression of the neuron-specific enolase in the brain of Wistar rats

Victor Bassey Archibong et al.

Summary: The study found that prolonged use of codeine syrup leads to oxidative stress, affecting the expression of enolase in neuronal cells, eventually resulting in glucose hypometabolism and functional brain failure.
