Wall Energy Loss and Entropy Generation in Solar Ponds Using One-Dimensional and Two-Dimensional Transient Analyses

Sunirmit Verma et al.

Summary: This paper examines the thermal energy loss of a cylindrical solar pond using one-dimensional and two-dimensional transient models. The study shows that as the size of the pond increases, the negative impact of sidewall loss decreases. The two-dimensional model provides a more realistic calculation of entropy generation for imperfectly insulated ponds. Although using a simplified one-dimensional model to estimate insulation thickness does not cause thermal performance issues, it may increase costs.

Thermo-mechanical energy level approach integrated with exergoeconomic optimization for realistic cost evaluation of a novel micro-CCHP system

Milad Feili et al.

Summary: Conventional exergoeconomic analysis lacks solid conceptual meaning behind its auxiliary cost equations. To address this issue, a modified exergoeconomic analysis is used in this study, which integrates the energy level of each stream. The unit cost of streams is modified based on their energy level, significantly affecting the overall unit cost of product. A new integral micro-CCHP system driven by geothermal source is proposed and economically evaluated using the recommended modified exergoeconomic approach. Multi-objective optimization is used to find an equilibrium point as the final optimal point. The superiority of the devised micro-CCHP system over similar benchmarks in terms of thermodynamics and thermoeconomics is demonstrated.
