Edge and Point-Defect Induced Electronic and Magnetic Properties in Monolayer PtSe2

Jingfeng Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electronic structure of edges and point defects in 2D-PtSe2 using STM and DFT. The experiment finds that stoichiometric zigzag edge terminations are energetically favored, and Se-vacancies, Pt-vacancies, and Se-antisites are identified as dominant defects in PtSe2. Defects in PtSe2 are found to induce magnetism, with Pt-vacancies exhibiting spin polarized states. These atomic-scale insights into defect-induced electronic states provide fundamental support for defect engineering of PtSe2-monolayers and the potential for engineering magnetic properties in PtSe2 nanoribbons.

Revealing Pt-seed-induced structural effects to tribological/electrical/thermoelectric modulations in two-dimensional PtSe2 using scanning probe microscopy

Jong Hun Kim et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), such as platinum diselenide (PtSe2), offer opportunities for investigating diverse scientific phenomena at an atomic level. The study evaluated local tribological, mechanical, and electrical properties of PtSe2 using scanning probe microscopy. Results showed significant variations in friction, mechanical properties, and conductance behaviors depending on the PtSe2 layer directions, suggesting potential for local metal-to-semiconductor transitions in thin PtSe2 layers in trench regions.

High carrier mobility in single-crystal PtSe2 grown by molecular beam epitaxy on ZnO(0001)

Frederic Bonell et al.

Summary: This study reports the growth of highly oriented few-layers PtSe2 on ZnO(0001) and finds that PtSe2 films grown on insulating substrate ZnO(0001) have better structural quality. Hall measurements performed on the epitaxial ZnO/PtSe2 demonstrate good semiconductor behavior and high mobility.

Angular dependence of nanofriction of mono- and few-layer MoSe2

Andrii Kozak et al.

Summary: This study investigated the anisotropic friction behavior between MoSe2 flakes using nanofriction measurements, revealing a high angular dependence of friction forces for both monolayer and few-layer MoSe2 flakes, with the anisotropy decreasing with applied loads. The differences in friction mechanisms between monolayer and few-layer MoSe2 flakes were confirmed by friction scanning velocity dependences.

High carrier mobility epitaxially aligned PtSe2 films grown by one-zone selenization

Michaela Sojkova et al.

Summary: Few-layer PtSe2 films are promising candidates for high-speed electronics, spintronics, and photodetectors. The study found that growth temperature significantly influences the structural and electrical properties of the films. The best results were achieved for PtSe2 layers grown at 600 degrees Celsius, exhibiting long-range in-plane ordering.

Friction control by engineering the crystallographic orientation of the lubricating few-layer MoS2 films

Michal Bodik et al.

Summary: The tribological properties of MoS2 films can be optimized by adjusting the crystallographic orientation, leading to different friction behaviors. Horizontally oriented MoS2 sheets exhibit a lower coefficient of friction compared to vertically oriented sheets.

Growth of PtSe2 few-layer films on NbN superconducting substrate

Michaela Sojkova et al.

Summary: The study reported the fabrication of a few-layer PtSe2 film on top of an NbN substrate by selenization of pre-deposited Pt layers, successfully preserving the chemical and structural integrity. It was found that the alignment of the PtSe2 film can be tuned by varying the nitrogen flow rate, with the superconducting critical temperature of NbN slightly reduced in the optimized samples.

Structural and mechanical properties of Ti-B-C coatings prepared by dual magnetron sputtering

A. A. Onoprienko et al.

Summary: Films in the Ti-B-C system were deposited onto Si (100) substrates using dual direct current magnetron sputtering of Ti-B and graphite targets. The carbon content in the films, as controlled by the sputtering current at the graphite target, influenced the film hardness and friction coefficient. Experimental results suggest that the deposited Ti-B-C films consist of nanocrystals of solid solution TiB2-xCx surrounded by an amorphous B-C-O phase.

Tuning the charge carrier mobility in few-layer PtSe2 films by Se : Pt ratio

Jana Hrda et al.

Summary: This study presents the fabrication of horizontally aligned PtSe2 films using pre-deposited platinum layers, and identifies the Se : Pt ratio as a parameter controlling charge carrier mobility, with mobility increasing over two times around a ratio value of 2 while reducing carrier concentration simultaneously. This finding suggests that ionized impurity scattering is responsible for the observed mobility behavior in few-layer PtSe2 films, contributing to a better understanding of their transport properties.
