High performance acetone gas sensor based on ultrathin porous NiO nanosheet

Chunyan Li et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the direct fabrication of ultrathin Ni(OH)2 nanosheets on substrates via a solvothermal process. The thickness and morphology of the nanosheets can be controlled by manipulating the ethanol content in the solvent. The 75% ethanol-based NiO gas sensor demonstrates ultrahigh acetone sensitivity, ultralow detection limit, good stability, and superior acetone selectivity. Low cost NiO nanosheets fabricated via a simple process could be considered as potential candidates for commercial acetone sensing applications.

Summary: A series of mesoporous cerium-iron binary oxides were prepared using CTAB as a template via a hydrothermal technique. The influence of Fe/Ce ratio and variations in preparation techniques on the properties of the materials were studied extensively. The shared Ce-O-Fe structures played a key role in the catalytic behavior, which could be controlled by the Fe/Ce ratio and the hydrothermal synthesis procedure.

Hierarchical assembly of SnO2 nanorod on spindle-like α-Fe2O3 for enhanced acetone gas-sensing performance

Miao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel SnO2 nanorod/spindle-like Fe2O3 heterostructure was successfully fabricated through a simple two-step hydrothermal route, which showed improved gas sensing performance on volatile organic compounds compared to pure Fe2O3. The enhanced gas-sensitivity performance of the hierarchical SnO2/Fe2O3 heterostructures can be attributed to the synergistic effect and heterojunction of the interface between spindle-like Fe2O3 and SnO2 nanorod. This research may provide new insight and a rational strategy for upgrading the sensing performance of certain semiconductor metal oxide materials through the design of novel layered nanostructures in the future.

Enhanced selective acetone gas sensing performance by fabricating ZnSnO3/SnO2 concave microcube

Jintao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, unique ZnSnO3/SnO2 concave microcubes with different doping amounts of SnO2 were successfully synthesized through a simple hydrothermal reaction. The 10 wt%SnO2 composite exhibited outstanding gas sensing performances, including a high gas sensing response value of 18.3, fast response/recovery time of 5/6 s, good reproducibility and selectivity, as well as extraordinary stability. The enhanced gas sensing properties of the ZnSnO3/10 wt%SnO2 sensor towards acetone were mainly attributed to increased high surface to volume ratios, the presence of oxygen vacancies, and the synergistic effect between ZnSnO3 and SnO2.
