Tuning electronic and optical properties of two-dimensional vertical van der waals arsenene/SnS2 heterostructure by strain and electric field

Long Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structure and electronic properties of the two-dimensional vertical van der Waals arsenene/SnS2 heterostructure through first-principles calculations. The results show that the heterostructure has a type-II band gap, and its electronic properties can be adjusted effectively by external electric field and biaxial strain. Additionally, the heterostructure exhibits enhanced optical absorption in the visible to ultraviolet region, with absorption peaks up to 35.1% in the ultraviolet range.

Polarization-Induced Band-Alignment Transition and Nonvolatile p-n Junctions in 2D Van der Waals Heterostructures

Mingjun Yang et al.

Summary: A nonvolatile doping strategy is reported for obtaining self-defined p-n junctions in 2D vdW heterostructures created by assembling monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides on polar semiconductors. The results show that the quantum-confined Stark effect plays an important role in spatial distribution, allowing manipulation of carrier types through polarization modulation. This work demonstrates the realization of nonvolatile p-n junctions with high carrier concentration in TMD/PS heterostructures and provides a band-engineering approach for versatile 2D electronics and optoelectronics development.

Dipole Engineering of Two-Dimensional van der Waals Heterostructures for Enhanced Power-Conversion Efficiency: The Case of Janus Ga2SeTe/InS

Kun Liang et al.

Summary: Efficient separation of tightly bound excitons at a 2D interface is crucial for high-performance heterostructure solar cells. The proposed dipole engineering strategy based on intrinsic and interface dipoles can enhance power conversion efficiency. Using the Janus Ga2SeTe/InS heterostructure as an example, a peak power conversion efficiency of 23.2% was achieved with the synergistic effect of dipoles and applied compression strain.

Transition of the Type of Band Alignments for All-Inorganic Perovskite van der Waals Heterostructures CsSnBr3/WS2(1-x)Se2x

Qiao-Hua Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the electronic and optical properties of all-inorganic perovskite vdWHs CsSnBr3/WS2(1-x)Se2x are systematically investigated based on density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The transition of band alignments from type-II to type-I and type-III to type-II is achieved by modulating the doping ratio of the Se atom in the WS2(1-x)Se2x monolayer for SnBr2/WS2(1-x)Se2x and CsBr/WS2(1-x)Se2x heterostructures, respectively. The theoretical basis provided in this work can contribute to the dynamic modulation of band alignments in perovskite-based vdWHs.
