Size Effects of MoS2 on Hydrogen and Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Gyawali Ghanashyam et al.

Summary: It is found that smaller-sized MoS2 nanosheets exhibit better performance in both HER and OER reactions, attributed to their higher electrochemical active surface area and lower charge transfer resistance.

Control of the morphologies of molybdenum disulfide for hydrogen evolution reaction

Tuan Van Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized different morphologies of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and investigated their electrocatalytic performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The MoS2 nanohollow (NH) morphology exhibited the best catalytic behavior, showing superior stability and performance compared to other synthesized materials. The results suggest that the electrocatalytic efficiencies of materials depend on their morphologies, which is closely related to the surface area of catalysts.

Non-noble Metal Electrocatalysts for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in Water Electrolysis

Huimin Wu et al.

Summary: Water electrolysis is a sustainable method for hydrogen production using clean energy sources, but the slow kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) result in low efficiency of electrolysis devices. Current electrocatalysts, which use noble metals like platinum for catalyzing HER and OER, face limitations due to their abundance and high cost. Therefore, the focus has shifted towards developing high-performance and cost-effective non-noble metal electrocatalysts as an alternative.

MoS2 nanoflower incorporated with Au/Pt nanoparticles for highly efficient hydrogen evolution reaction

Mengyao Li et al.

Summary: The study focuses on fabricating a hybrid of nanoscale noble metals incorporated in the earth-abundant material MoS2 using a hydrothermal method. The results showed that incorporating a small amount of Au and Pt significantly enhanced the HER performance due to improved electrical charge transfer, increased active sites, and reduced resistance. This research demonstrates a new catalyst design strategy that can effectively improve HER performance and reduce costs.
