Plasmonic Metasurfaces for Specific SERS Detection of Shiga Toxins

M. Rippa et al.

Summary: The development of nanoscale plasmonic technologies has gained significant interest in recent years. This research proposes a 2D hybrid metallic polymeric nanostructure based on the octupolar framework, which exhibits enhanced sensing properties. The plasmonic features of the nanostructure are analyzed both numerically and experimentally, showing high values for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) enhancement factor and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) bulk sensitivity. Furthermore, the nanostructure demonstrates dual resonance in the visible and near-infrared spectrum, enabling multispectral plasmonic analysis.

Chen Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated an advanced photocatalyst based on N-vacancy tubular porous g-C3N4 decorated with atomically dispersed Mo, showing remarkable photocatalytic performance for tetracycline degradation under visible light irradiation. The large specific surface area of the tubular morphology contributes to suppress the agglomeration of Mo atoms, while the N defect induces the formation of specific stable Mo-2 C/2 N configuration.

Recyclable 3D SERS devices based on ZnO nanorod-grafted nanowire forests for biochemical sensing

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional (3D) surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) devices have been extensively studied for their unique structural advantages. In this work, a novel setaria-like 3D nanostructure composed of nanowire forests (NWFs) grafted with ZnO nanorods (NRs), decorated with Au nanoparticles (NPs), is fabricated for ultrasensitive SERS detection. The 3D Au-ZnO@NWF hybrids generate abundant 3D SERS hot spots through electromagnetic coupling of densely distributed Au NPs on the ZnO NRs. Under optimized conditions, a significant SERS enhancement factor of 6.4 x 10(6) and a limit of detection (LOD) up to 10(-10) M for Rhodamine 6G (R6G) are achieved. The device also demonstrates good spectral reproducibility with a relative standard deviation of less than 10% and achieves trace detection of biochemical molecules with LODs of 10(-7) M and 10(-9) M for adenine and p-amino-thiophenol, respectively. The SERS device can be reused over fifteen times while maintaining pristine signal intensity due to the photocatalytic properties of ZnO. The novel strategy of constructing heterogeneous nanostructures and the devices based on these nanostructures are expected to have wide applications in biomedical analysis and environmental pollution monitoring.

Local surface plasma resonance effect enhanced Z-scheme ZnO/Au/g-C3N4 film photocatalyst for reduction of CO2 to CO

Xin Li et al.

Summary: The Z-scheme ZnO/Au/g-C3N4 micro-needle film enhanced by the Local Surface Plasma Resonance (LSPR) effect demonstrated excellent photocatalytic performance and reusability in the photoreduction of CO2 into CO under UV-vis light irradiation. The material achieved a high CO production rate after 8 hours of reaction time, which was significantly higher than that of the pure ZnO film. The combination of factors such as the electric field at the g-C3N4/ZnO interface, the role of Au NPs as electron-transfer bridges and LSPR excited sources, and in-situ FTIR technique investigation contribute to the enhanced electron transfer efficiency and overall photocatalytic performance.
