The study showed that influencing parameters like temperature, solvent, and the ratio of reagents have a considerable effect on the catalytic activity of the compound. Additionally, UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed new catalytically active species formed by the interaction between the compound and H2O2, serving as intermediates in the oxidation process of the substrate.

Solvent-free oxidation of straight-chain aliphatic primary alcohols by polymer-grafted vanadium complexes

Summary: In this study, three oxidovanadium(IV) complexes were synthesized and heterogenized. They were then applied for the solvent-free oxidation of aliphatic alcohols, showing better conversion rates for alcohols with fewer carbon atoms and significant improvement in substrate conversion at higher reaction temperatures for alcohols with more carbon atoms. The selectivity towards carboxylic acid decreased with increasing carbon atoms among the examined alcohols, while the selectivity towards aldehydes increased. The efficiency of the supported catalysts was ranked as 4>6>5 based on turnover frequency (TOF) values and substrate conversion, which was further supported by theoretical calculations.
