Liang Chen et al.

Summary: Efficient cooling is crucial for high concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) cells to maintain their electrical performance and extend their lifetime. In this study, a novel microchannel heat sink with serpentine reentrant microchannels (SRM) was developed for efficient cooling of HCPV cells. The SRM design effectively reduced cell temperatures and improved temperature uniformity, resulting in increased output power and electrical efficiency for the HCPV cell module.

A numerical evaluation of the bifacial concentrated PV-STEG system cooled by mini-channel heat sink

Yuanzhi Gao et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of operating temperature on the working performance of a novel bifacial concentrated photovoltaic-solar thermoelectric generator (PV-STEG) system, and selects a mini channel heat sink with superior heat transfer characteristics to lower the PV cell temperature. A three-dimensional numerical model is developed and compared with a conventional PV system. The study finds that the square mini-channel heat sink is more suitable and recommends maximizing power yield through stronger solar irradiance, higher Reynolds number, and lower inlet temperature. The use of nanofluids significantly reduces/improves PV temperature and power output, with a 14.59% increase in total efficiency and a 23.21% enhancement in exergy efficiency compared to the PV alone.

Yuanzhi Gao et al.

Summary: The developed bifacial PV-TEG system combined with flat plate heat pipe (FPHP) tackles the challenge of mismatch operating temperature issues between PV and TEG. Comparative analysis shows that the bifacial FPHP-PV-TEG system outperforms the conventional tandem FPHP-PV-TEG system in overall power generation and energy conversion efficiency. Increasing the solar concentration ratio and the convective heat transfer coefficient can enhance the performance of both systems.
