Predictive risk models for forecasting arrhythmic outcomes in Brugada syndrome: A focused review

Cheuk To Chung et al.

Summary: Brugada syndrome is a rare disorder with challenging risk stratification. Multiple risk factors play a role in predicting major arrhythmic events, and a multi-parametric approach is needed for accurate risk assessment. However, non-linear interactions between different risk variables make risk stratification difficult.

Brugada Syndrome in Women: What Do We Know After 30 Years?

Estefania Martinez-Barrios et al.

Summary: Brugada syndrome is an arrhythmogenic disease with a higher prevalence and risk in males compared to females. Females with the syndrome are more frequently asymptomatic and older at the time of diagnosis. Sex hormones, particularly testosterone, may play a role in these differences. However, current research on Brugada syndrome focuses mainly on males, lacking gender-related information.

Comparing the Performance of Published Risk Scores in Brugada Syndrome: A Multi-center Cohort Study

Sharen Lee et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the predictive performance of different risk scores in an Asian BrS population and developed new risk scores and machine learning-based models. The score developed by Sieira et al showed the best performance for the whole cohort. For the intermediate risk subgroup, a gradient boosting classifier model showed the best performance.

Summary: Male predominance in Brugada syndrome is common, but there is limited information on female patients. This study found that females with BrS present differently from males in terms of symptoms, ECG patterns, and family history. Genetic testing and atrial fibrillation were identified as risk factors for future arrhythmic events in women with BrS.

A Primary Prevention Clinical Risk Score Model for Patients With Brugada Syndrome (BRUGADA-RISK)

Shohreh Honarbakhsh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a risk score model for patients with Brugada syndrome, utilizing a multicenter international cohort to evaluate and predict ventricular arrhythmias/sudden cardiac death. The study identified four risk factors associated with higher risk of VA/SCD in BrS patients, and a risk score model was created with effective validation through cross-validation.
