Degradable Vinyl Random Copolymers via Photocontrolled Radical Ring-Opening Cascade Copolymerization**

Wenqi Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a photocatalytic approach to generate degradable vinyl random copolymers with even distribution of labile functional groups in the polymer backbone. Reversible inhibition of chain propagation by in situ generated sulfur dioxide was overcome by reducing its solubility. The resulting degradable vinyl copolymers exhibited comparable material properties to non-degradable vinyl polymers.

Main-Chain Fluoropolymers with Alternating Sequence Control via Light-Driven Reversible-Deactivation Copolymerization in Batch and Flow

Kaixuan Chen et al.

Summary: This study achieved controlled synthesis of fluoropolymers for the first time using a novel fluorinated xanthate agent through a light-driven process. The alternating copolymerization of chlorotrifluoroethylene and vinyl esters/amides was successfully carried out under both batch and flow conditions. A two-step photo-flow platform was established to enable in-situ chain-extension for the continuous synthesis of advanced block copolymers from fluoroethylene.

Resilient Poly(α-hydroxy acids) with Improved Strength and Ductility via Scalable Stereosequence-Controlled Polymerization

Xiaoqian Wang et al.

Summary: A new method for the synthesis of high-molecular-weight functionalized poly(alpha-hydroxy acids) by controlled ring-opening polymerization mediated by a highly redox reactive manganese complex and a zinc-alkoxide was reported in this study, addressing scalability issues seen in previous synthetic methods. Gradient copolymers produced by this method exhibited better ductility and toughness compared to their homopolymers and block copolymers.

Visible-Light-Enabled Organocatalyzed Controlled Alternating Terpolymerization of Perfluorinated Vinyl Ethers

Qinzhi Quan et al.

Summary: An organocatalyzed controlled radical alternating terpolymerization of PFVEs and VEs under visible-light irradiation was developed, allowing the synthesis of a broad scope of fluorinated terpolymers with low dispersities and high chain-end fidelity. This method facilitates tuning the chemical compositions by rationally choosing the type and ratio of comonomers, and also enables temporal control of chain-growth and the preparation of novel fluorinated block copolymers.
