Tetra-Substituted p-Tert-Butylcalix[4]Arene with Phosphoryl and Salicylamide Functional Groups: Synthesis, Complexation and Selective Extraction of f-Element Cations

Florian Glasneck et al.

Summary: A new series of lanthanide and uranyl complexes with a tetra-substituted bifunctional calixarene ligand H2L were synthesized and characterized. The results showed that the ligand has higher affinity for uranyl cation compared to lanthanide ions, and demonstrated good selectivity and extraction efficiency in solvent extraction process.

Commercial gigahertz-class NMR magnets

Patrick Wikus et al.

Summary: Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a widely used analytical technique for determining molecular structures. Bruker is currently the only company that produces commercial NMR spectrometers with a proton resonance frequency greater than 900 MHz. Recently, Bruker has successfully developed 1.1 and 1.2 GHz NMR spectrometers, which utilize high-temperature superconductors to generate the required magnetic field, surpassing the limitations of conventional low-temperature superconductors.

Pure Isotropic Proton Solid State NMR

Pinelopi Moutzouri et al.

Summary: The method suggests parametrically mapping error terms due to imperfect averaging in k-space representation to remove them in multidimensional correlation, leaving only the desired pure isotropic signal. It leads to significantly narrower pure isotropic H-1 spectra compared to MAS spectra, with an average 7-fold increase in resolution and up to a factor of 20 in comparison to spectra acquired at 100 kHz MAS.

Faster magic angle spinning reveals cellulose conformations in woods

Eric Chung-Yueh Yuan et al.

Summary: The study presented the detection of three different C6 conformers of cellulose in spruce using solid-state H-1-C-13 correlation spectra, with a breakthrough in H-1 resolution achieved by magic-angle spinning in the regime of 150 kHz. The research also found that thermal treatment of spruce leads to a more heterogeneous packing order of the remaining cellulose fibrils.
