Recent advances in heterogeneous single-atom nanomaterials: From engineered metal-support interaction to applications in sensors

Shuzhen Lv et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the increasing use of heterogeneous single-atom nanomaterials (HSANs) in sensors, highlighting their excellent performance in improving sensitivity through active centers formed by metal-support interactions and high metal utilization efficiency. The interactions between metal single-atoms and various carbon-based nanomaterials, MOFs/MOFs-derived nanomaterials, metal oxidation/sulfide nanomaterials, and metal nanomaterials during the construction process of HSANs are comprehensively reviewed. These metal-support interactions contribute to the functional characteristics of HSANs, which provide a solid foundation for sensor applications.

Construction of a Structure-Switchable Toehold Dumbbell Probe for Sensitive and Label-Free Measurement of MicroRNA in Cancer Cells and Tissues

Chen-Chen Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a structure-switchable toehold dumbbell probe was designed for sensitive and label-free measurement of microRNA in cancer cells and tissues. The probe integrates exponential-rolling circle amplification (EXP-RCA) with linear-rolling circle amplification (LRCA) to improve detection sensitivity. This assay exhibits ultrahigh sensitivity and excellent specificity, allowing for accurate quantification of microRNA expression at a single-cell level and differentiation of expression differences in different tissues.

DNA Sequence and Length Dictate the Assembly of Nucleic Acid Block Copolymers

Felix J. Rizzuto et al.

Summary: The sequence and length of single-stranded DNA directly influence the self-assembly of sequence-defined DNA block copolymers. Changing only the sequence of DNA can result in different structures, and the secondary structure of poly(adenine) DNA strands drives a temperature-dependent polymerization and assembly mechanism.

Construction of an Entropy-Driven Dumbbell-Type DNAzyme Assembly Circuit for Lighting Up Uracil-DNA Glycosylase in Living Cells

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, an entropy-driven dumbbell-type DNAzyme assembly circuit was constructed to sensitively monitor intracellular uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG) activity in living cells. This method achieved high signal gain and a low detection limit, and can be performed in one-step at room temperature without the need for strict temperature control and complicated reaction procedures. It can also be used for UDG inhibitor screening, measurement of kinetic parameters, and discrimination of cancer cells from normal cells. Additionally, this strategy can be applied to sensing and imaging of other types of DNA modifying enzymes by integrating the corresponding detection substrate.
