RNA-cleaving DNAzymes as a diagnostic and therapeutic agent against antimicrobial resistant bacteria

Bao Chi Wong et al.

Summary: The development of nucleic-acid-based antimicrobials, such as RNA-cleaving DNAzyme, offers a promising alternative to current antibiotics in combating antimicrobial resistance. This review highlights recent advances in the diagnostic and therapeutic applications of RCD against AMR, including detecting bacterial cells and resistant genes, as well as targeting resistant and AMR-associated genes. Challenges in real-life applications and the potential of combining diagnostic and therapeutic uses of RCD into a single agent as a theranostic agent are also discussed.

Triple-color fluorescence co-localization of PD-L1-overexpressing cancer exosomes

Jinxiu Wei et al.

Summary: A facile and reliable method was presented in this study for detecting PD-L1-overexpressing cancer exosomes. Highly sensitive and reliable detection was achieved through triple-color fluorescence colocalization technology, with a low detection limit. The advantages of this method include easy preparation and convenient cleaning of the detection substrate, as well as the ability to exclude nonspecific reaction sites.

Exosomal RNAs in diagnosis and therapies

Pranay Narang et al.

Summary: The field of extracellular vesicles, particularly exosomes, has been rapidly advancing. Exosomes, ranging from 40 to 160 nm in diameter, are released by most cells in the body and carry molecules that reflect their cell of origin. Of particular importance are the various RNA molecules found in exosomes, which have been linked to regulating biological processes and diseases in the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, metabolism, cancer, and immune system. Furthermore, exosomes also show potential as therapeutic agents for tissue regeneration and conditions resulting from excessive inflammation. Further research is needed to fully understand exosome formation, their biological effects, and their potential as biomarkers and therapeutics.

PD-L1 detection on circulating tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (T-EVs) from patients with lung cancer

Fei Wu et al.

Summary: A new Epcam-PD-L1 EV detection assay was developed to predict PD-L1 expression levels in lung cancer patients, showing potential as a liquid biopsy method. The assay demonstrated significant correlation with tissue PD-L1 expression levels, suggesting its potential for predicting patient response to immune checkpoint inhibitors.
