Ageism and Psychological Well-Being Among Older Adults: A Systematic Review

Hyun Kang et al.

Summary: Ageism may have harmful effects on the psychological well-being of older adults, but there is insufficient data to establish this hypothesis. This study reviewed quantitative studies on the relationship between ageism and psychological well-being and found a negative association between the two. The study also found that older adults with a high level of psychological well-being may be less affected by ageism, especially those who were proud of their age group, experienced less negative emotions, were optimistic about aging and their future, were self-confident about their bodies, and were flexible in setting goals.

The Effects of Mindfulness-Based Interventions on Suicide Outcomes: A Meta-Analysis

Emma Schmelefske et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) in treating and preventing suicide. The results showed that MBIs had significant effects on suicidal ideation and led to reductions in depression. MBIs could be promising treatments for suicidal ideation, although more research is needed to determine their effects and mechanisms.

Understanding Vulnerability to Late-Life Suicide

Olivia J. Ding et al.

Summary: Suicide is a complex behavior with many points for intervention. Factors such as access to deadly means, presence of depression, disease, disability, and social disconnection increase vulnerability. Quality geriatric care, regular screening in primary and emergency care settings, and a multidisciplinary approach are necessary to mitigate risk factors.
