Characterization of a Newly Designed Test Bench for Investigations of Flame-Wall Interaction

Rahand Dalshad et al.

Summary: For the thermal design of combustion chambers and turbine blades in jet engines, a detailed knowledge of the combustion and heat loads to the walls is necessary. A new test bench was set up to study the chemical near-wall reactions under atmospheric pressure. The preliminary results of gaseous, nonpremixed near-wall CH4/air and H-2/air flames were analyzed using optical methods and inverse heat conduction calculation.

Dataset providing boundary conditions of an experimental test bench to numerically investigate flame wall interactions using CFD

Lukas Fischer et al.

Summary: This paper provides data on the flame-wall interactions of an experimental test bench at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, allowing for numerical investigations and model testing. The data includes inflow boundary conditions from the burner and fuel injector, as well as temperature distribution at the test section wall.

Numerical characterization of a novel test bench featuring secondary reactions of methane

Lukas Fischer et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel test bench developed at the Bundeswehr University of Munich to investigate secondary near-wall reactions caused by the cold injection of methane into an oxygen-rich hot crossflow. The results show that the autoignition length is more strongly affected by the hot gas inlet temperature than by the turbulent fluctuations of the crossflow, and the qualitative comparison with experimental data is satisfactory. The wall heat flux distribution downstream the fuel injection nozzles is similar to the experimental distribution.

Delayed Detached Eddy Simulations with Tabulated Chemistry for Thermal Loads Predictions

Paola Breda et al.

Summary: This work investigates the validity of a hybrid Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes/Large Eddy Simulation turbulence model combined with efficient flamelet tables based on experimental data, optimizing the generation of non-adiabatic flamelets. The use of IDDES/non-adiabatic flamelet model is recommended as a valid alternative to the widely used wall-stress-modeled large-eddy simulation, confirming the robustness of the method.
