Charge Transport in Organic Semiconductors: The Perspective from Nonadiabatic Molecular Dynamics

Samuele Giannini et al.

Summary: Organic semiconductors have enabled disruptive technologies in this century, but the nature of charge transport in these materials has puzzled scientists for many years. Recent progress in theory and simulation has led to a unified understanding, and this paper reviews a tool called direct charge carrier propagation by quantum-classical nonadiabatic molecular dynamics. The simulations show that charge carriers in these materials can either localize or delocalize depending on various factors, and predict the formation of flickering polarons that expand and propagate through the material.

Effect of Fluorine Substitution in a Hole Dopant on the Photovoltaic Performance of Perovskite Solar Cells

Seul-Gi Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of lithium sulfonyl imide dopants on the performance of perovskite solar cells. The results show that LiTFSI has a slightly higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to LiFSI and LiPFSI. The lower performance of LiPFSI is attributed to interfacial problems and nonuniform film caused by aggregate formation, while LiFSI has poor moisture stability due to its lower hydrophobicity. In conclusion, LiTFSI is a suitable dopant in terms of both efficiency and stability.

Crowning Lithium Ions in Hole-Transport Layer toward Stable Perovskite Solar Cells

Ying Shen et al.

Summary: State-of-the-art perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exhibit comparable power conversion efficiency (PCE) to silicon photovoltaic devices, but their stability remains a major obstacle to widespread application. A novel phase-transfer-catalyzed LiTFSI doping method has been developed to address stability issues and improve performance. Experimental and theoretical studies show that the interaction between Li+ ions and 12-crown-4 improves stability by reducing the generation of hygroscopic lithium oxides and mitigating Li+ ion migration.

3-Chloroperoxybenzoic acid doping spiroOMeTAD for improving the performance of perovskite solar cells

Qi Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the optimization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by doping 3-Chloroperoxybenzoic acid (m-CPBA) into spiroOMeTAD. The addition of m-CPBA accelerates the oxidation of spiroOMeTAD, increases carrier generation, improves hole conductivity, and reduces defects and carrier non-radiative recombination. Furthermore, the modification of m-CPBA adjusts the energy levels of the hole transport layer (HTL), enhancing the energy match with the perovskite layer and reducing energy loss at the interface. The optimized PSCs achieve high power conversion efficiency and excellent environmental stability.
