On the Corrosion Fatigue of Magnesium Alloys Aimed at Biomedical Applications: New Insights from the Influence of Testing Frequency and Surface Modification of the Alloy ZK60

Mikhail Linderov et al.

Summary: Magnesium alloys, especially in medical applications, face challenges due to their poor resistance to environmentally assisted fracture and bio-corrosion degradation. This study focuses on the corrosion fatigue behavior of a popular Mg-Zn-Zr alloy, specifically examining the effects of testing frequency, surface roughness, and metallic coatings. The results demonstrate that the occurrence of corrosion fatigue in Mg alloys is influenced by multiple factors, showing a complicated interplay between corrosion damage, stress corrosion cracking, and cyclic loads.

Developing a low-alloyed fine-grained Mg alloy with high strength-ductility based on dislocation evolution and grain boundary segregation

Zhi Zhang et al.

Summary: A new low-alloyed Mg-2Sm-0.8Mn-0.6Ca-0.5Zn alloy is prepared by low-temperature and low-speed extrusion, which exhibits high strength but low ductility. After annealing, the alloy shows both high strength and high ductility due to the effective inhibition of grain growth by grain boundary co-segregation and decreased dislocation density. The evolution of immovable long dislocations towards new grain boundaries is a key factor for the remarkable increase of ductility in the annealed alloy.

Influence of Thermal Processing on Resoloy Wire Microstructure and Properties

Ju Xue et al.

Summary: The research focused on preparing Resoloy fine wires with diameters of 200 and 500 μm using a cold-drawing technique followed by thermal anneals at 350 or 450 degrees C. The wires showed elongated alpha-Mg grains with continuous Mg24Dy5 particles. Annealing at 350 and 450 degrees C resulted in recovery and recrystallization, providing a wide range of mechanical properties. Corrosion rates in modified simulated body fluid were relatively uniform across different wire types.
