First molecular detection of Spiroplasma spp. in ticks from horses in Brazil

Nathalia Xavier Da Silva et al.

Summary: This study detected and characterized Mollicutes microorganisms in ticks from Brazil using molecular techniques. Spiroplasma spp. were found in the tick samples, highlighting the need for further research on the epidemiology, virulence, and pathogenicity of these microorganisms.

'Candidatus Mycoplasma haematohydrochoerus', a novel hemoplasma species in capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) from Brazil

Rafael F. C. Vieira et al.

Summary: Three different species of hemoplasmas have been found in rodents, including capybaras in Brazil. Capybaras, the largest rodents in the world, are well adapted to living near humans, increasing the risk of zoonotic pathogen transmission. The study identified a potentially novel hemoplasma species infecting capybaras in southern Brazil.
