Defining the normal QT interval in newborns: the natural history and reference values for the first 4 weeks of life

Maria Munk Paerregaard et al.

Summary: The study aimed to describe the natural history of the QT interval during the first 4 weeks of life in newborns and provide reference values. Results showed minor changes in QT intervals over time, with uncorrected intervals decreasing with increasing heart rate. Sex and infant size did not affect the QT interval, and gestational age only had an effect in extremely premature newborns.

Gestational Age and Neonatal Electrocardiograms

Joachim Hartmann et al.

Summary: The study found significant impact of gestational age on neonatal ECG parameters, with boys showing longer PR and QRS intervals and a more right-shifted QRS axis. Gestational age was directly associated with the development of the neonatal cardiac conduction system, and the use of GA-specific reference values can optimize clinical management.

Epidemiology, Genetics and Epigenetics of Congenital Heart Diseases in Twins

Ramya Balasubramanian et al.

Summary: This review article discusses the increasing incidence of congenital heart disease in twin pregnancies, primarily due to assisted reproductive technologies and other factors. The strongest environmental factor associated with CHD is maternal smoking. Recommendations include improving echocardiographic skills to decrease CHD morbidity and mortality.
