Qua-alluding to the Past: A Case of Methaqualone Analog Ingestion

Kyle Lund et al.

Summary: This case describes a 21-year-old male who experienced altered mental status, myoclonus, and other symptoms after ingesting Methaqualone and insufflating cocaine. Laboratory results showed methemoglobinemia. Analysis confirmed the pills as a dichlorinated Methaqualone analog.

Two Fatalities Involving Mebroqualone

K. M. Woods

Summary: Mebroqualone is a derivative of methaqualone with limited information on its toxicity. Two autopsy cases were reported with varying levels of mebroqualone in the blood, one involving accidental death and the other suicide. This study is the first to compare postmortem blood concentrations of mebroqualone in scientific literature.

Detection and quantification of psychotropic drug etaqualone in human hair using GC-MS/MS

Yang Hongkun et al.

Summary: In this study, a sensitive analytical method for the detection and quantification of etaqualone in human hair samples was successfully established using GC-MS/MS. The method showed good linear relationship, high accuracy, and precision, demonstrating its potential application in rapid detection and identification of the psychotropic drug etaqualone.

Return of the Quaaludes? Prolonged agitated delirium after intentional ingestion of the methaqualone analog SL-164-a case report

Katrin Romanek et al.

Summary: A 22-year-old male with a history of drug abuse presented prolonged agitated delirium after ingesting opium poppy tea and the designer drug SL-164. Treatment with benzodiazepines and neuroleptics led to complete resolution of symptoms within 72 hours, allowing the patient to be discharged on day three. This case represents a unique occurrence of agitated delirium with detection of SL-164 and its metabolites in a patient's serum and urine.

Mechanism-Based Insights into Removing the Mutagenicity of Aromatic Amines by Small Structural Alterations

Igor Shamovsky et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of N-hydroxylation of aromatic and heteroaromatic amines by CYP1A2 using density functional theory calculations, finding that bioactivation follows an anionic pathway. The results demonstrate that mutagenicity of ArNH2 can be removed by disrupting geometric and electrostatic fit to CYP1A2.

GABAA receptors: structure, function, pharmacology, and related disorders

Amr Ghit et al.

Summary: GABA(A) receptors are the most prominent inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors in the central nervous system, with a complex structure and diverse subtypes. Changes in GABA(A)Rs can have a significant impact on normal brain function, and dysfunction contributes to the development of multiple diseases.
