Ice-Shedding Polymer Coatings with High Hardness but Low Ice Adhesion

Haili Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper presents a bilayer coating with high hardness and low ice adhesion. The coating is prepared by cocuring triisocyanate and methacrylate polyol, resulting in a hard matrix. The surface of the coating is covered by a PDMS brush layer, which, when lubricated with silicone oil, reduces ice adhesion. This design allows for effective ice shedding and maintains low ice adhesion values for multiple icing/deicing cycles.

Development of soybean oil-based aqueous polyurethanes and the effect of hydroxyl value on its properties

Wenxue Lou et al.

Summary: A series of soybean oil-based polyols were synthesized and used to prepare aqueous polyurethanes. The hydroxyl value of the polyols was found to greatly affect the mechanical, thermal, and hydrophobic properties of the resulting polyurethane films. Increasing the hydroxyl value led to higher glass transition temperature, improved water contact angle, and reduced water absorption. Additionally, the polyurethane synthesized from the polyol with the highest hydroxyl value exhibited the lowest degradation rate when exposed to sodium hydroxide solution.
