Synthesis of adiponitrile from dimethyl adipate and ammonia in the vapor-phase over niobium oxide

Xiao-Feng Xu et al.

Summary: An environmentally friendly method for synthesizing adiponitrile (ADN), a nylon-6,6 intermediate, was achieved by directly vapor-phase nitrilation of dimethyl adipate (DMA) with ammonia (NH3) in a fixed-bed reactor. The challenges of this reaction include inhibiting undesired reactions and suppressing thermal decomposition. By optimizing conditions and using suitable catalysts, high selectivity and conversion can be achieved.

Phase tuning of ZrO2 supported cobalt catalysts for hydrodeoxygenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-dimethylfuran under mild conditions

Tianci Xiao et al.

Summary: The crystal structure of catalyst support plays a significant role in influencing its surface and electronic properties, thereby affecting catalytic activity. By preparing monoclinic, tetragonal, and mixed phase Co/ZrO2 catalysts, different hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities were observed in the conversion of HMF to DMF. The interaction between cobalt and t-ZrO2 resulted in higher hydrogenation activity, while the presence of acid concentration on the surface of Co/m-ZrO2 led to higher efficiency in hydrogenolysis reactions. The combination of high hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities in Co/Mix-ZrO2 achieved the highest yield of DMF under mild conditions.

Hydrolysis of amides to carboxylic acids catalyzed by Nb2O5

S. M. A. Hakim Siddiki et al.

Summary: Nb2O5 was identified as the most effective catalyst for the hydrolysis of acetamide to acetic acid, due to its ability to readily activate the carbonyl bond through Lewis acid sites. This method offers synthetic advantages including simple operation, catalyst recyclability, lack of additives, solvent-free conditions, and applicability to a wide range of substrates.
