Oxygen vacancy enhanced visible light photocatalytic selective oxidation of benzylamine over ultrathin Pd/BiOCl nanosheets

Shuai Wei et al.

Summary: Two atomic layered BiOCl nanosheets with rich oxygen vacancies were constructed via surface Pd deposition, exhibiting high photocatalytic activity and selectivity. The ultrathin structure of the nanosheets induces the formation of surface oxygen vacancies, resulting in increased visible light absorption. In-situ experiments revealed that the oxygen vacancy sites contribute to the conversion of O-2 molecules from air to the surface. Furthermore, low-coordinated Bi and Pd sites play crucial roles in the formation of active species.

Enhancement of Hot Electron Generation in Colloidal Plasmonic Nanocrystals by Adsorption of Pt Clusters

Yi Yang et al.

Summary: Surface scattering of electrons in metal nanocrystals generates hot electrons (HEs) of great significance in practical applications such as photodetection or photocatalytic reactions. This study systematically investigates the HE rates of colloidal Au nanocrystals and their enhancement by Pt cluster adsorption. Among the three types of nanocrystals (nanospheres, nanocubes, and nanorods), Au nanocubes exhibit the highest incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency. The adsorption of Pt clusters on Au nanocrystals leads to a nearly one order of magnitude enhancement in photocurrent, explained by the electromagnetic and catalytic effects of Pt clusters.

Selective Deposition of Catalytic Metals on Plasmonic Au Nanocups for Room-Light-Active Photooxidation of o-Phenylenediamine

Han Zhang et al.

Summary: Plasmonic hotspots can enhance hot charge carrier generation, offering new opportunities for improving the photo-catalytic activity. In this study, eight types of heteronanostructures were synthesized for the photocatalytic oxidation of o-phenylenediamine, with gold nanocups showing the highest activity. Simulations revealed that the electric field enhancement at the hotspots boosted the hot-carrier density in the catalytic nanoparticles.
