Atomic-scale insights of indium segregation and its suppression by GaAs insertion layer in InGaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum wells

Shu-Fang Ma et al.

Summary: The segregation of In atoms in the InGaAs/AlGaAs interface and the suppression of segregation by a GaAs insertion layer are investigated using XRD, PL, and Cs-STEM techniques. The study provides direct evidence of In segregation and demonstrates the effectiveness of the GaAs layer in suppressing it on an atomic scale. These findings offer atomic-scale insights into the segregation behavior of In atoms and uncover the underlying mechanism of how the GaAs insertion layer improves the crystallinity, interface roughness, and optical performance of InGaAs/AlGaAs QWs.

Tandem Organic Solar Cell with 20.2% Efficiency

Zhong Zheng et al.

Summary: A advanced interconnecting layer for tandem organic solar cell is developed in this study. By controlling the O-2 flux during evaporation, efficient electron extraction and low Schottky barrier are obtained, enabling effective charge recombination between two subcells. The tandem cell with the interconnecting layer shows a high efficiency of 20.27%.

Microstructure and electronic property of pristine and thermal barrier layers TiN/AlN/ZrB2 buffered 4H-SiC/W interface from first principles study

Yunfan Zhu et al.

Summary: Improving the mechanical behavior and understanding underlying mechanism of ceramics/metal systems is essential for engineering novel film/coating systems and evaluating the performance of devices with heterointerfaces. The study focused on the interfacial structure and electronic properties of the 4H-SiC/W system, examining both the pristine interface and interfaces modified with thermal barrier layers. Through first principles calculations and analysis, the preferred interfacial structure and bonding mechanisms were identified for enhancing the thermal performance of the system.

Low temperature Fermi-Dirac distribution in InAsP quantum dot lasers

Ivan B. Karomi

Summary: This study compared InAsP QD materials with the standard InP QD laser and found that InAsP QD had a higher strain field and deeper dot confinement. The breakdown of the Fermi-Dirac distribution at 150K for InAsP QD materials was also observed, indicating the potential of InAsP for ultrafast source generation.

3D/2D passivation as a secret to success for polycrystalline thin-film solar cells

Deborah L. McGott et al.

Summary: Polycrystalline photovoltaic materials offer low costs and good scalability, but grain boundaries in these materials may affect carrier recombination. Recent studies have shown that passivation of absorber surfaces through the formation of low-dimensional van der Waals materials can improve device performance in polycrystalline thin-film photovoltaics.
