The evolving profile of cognitive pharmaceutical services in Australia

Vivien Tong et al.

Summary: Globally, the availability and delivery of cognitive pharmaceutical services (CPS) by pharmacists has expanded over time, with government funding to support certain CPS significantly increasing. In Australia, medication management services have been funded consistently for over 15 years, but fluctuations in funding for other CPS have been observed. Legislative changes have broadened pharmacists' scope of practice and contributed to an increase in user-pay services.

Home medicines reviews: a national survey of Australian accredited pharmacists' health service time investment

Marea Patounas et al.

Summary: Accredited pharmacists in Australia invest significant time in performing comprehensive HMRs, especially during in-home patient consultations and during HMR report collation and completion. A survey of 255 respondents found that female pharmacists spent more time in patient consultations than male pharmacists, and pharmacists with more HMR career experience spent less time in the initial paper-based assessment and review stage. Further research is needed to better understand their work processes for optimizing medicines use and improving health.
