Clinical efficacy of dexmedetomidine combined with lidocaine for femoral and sciatic nerve blocks in dogs undergoing stifle surgery

Claudia Acquafredda et al.

Summary: Dexmedetomidine administered with lidocaine either perineurally or intramuscularly can prolong sensory blockade and analgesia, with the systemic administration of dexmedetomidine also prolonging the sensory blockade of perineural lidocaine. Dogs in the perineural dexmedetomidine group required postoperative rescue analgesia later than dogs in the intramuscular dexmedetomidine and lidocaine groups.
