Foliar application of silicon nanoparticles affected the growth, vitamin C, flavonoid, and antioxidant enzyme activities of coriander (Coriandrum sativumL.) plants grown in lead (Pb)-spiked soil

Hamideh Fatemi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of silicon nanoparticles (Si NPs) on coriander plants under different lead (Pb) concentrations. The results showed that Si NPs could alleviate the adverse impacts of Pb on plant growth and enhance the plant's antioxidant capacity. Further field studies are needed to highlight the role of Si NPs on plants under toxic trace element stress.

ROS-Dependent Induction of Antioxidant System and Heat Resistance of Wheat Seedlings by Hemin

Yu. E. Kolupaev et al.

Summary: The study showed that treatment with hemin can enhance heat resistance in wheat seedlings and was associated with a temporary increase in extracellular peroxidase activity and hydrogen peroxide content in the roots. However, this increase can be inhibited by substances such as hydrogen peroxide scavenger.

Abiotic Stress and Reactive Oxygen Species: Generation, Signaling, and Defense Mechanisms

Swati Sachdev et al.

Summary: Climate change has devastating effects on plants, leading to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as byproducts of oxygen consumption. While excessive ROS can disrupt cellular homeostasis, moderate levels can activate growth and stress responses in plants, though the exact mechanisms are not fully understood. Advancements in modern techniques like molecular priming and crop modeling offer potential solutions for managing ROS levels in plants under stress.
