Laparoscopic Versus Open Appendectomy for Acute Appendicitis in Children: a Nationwide Retrospective Study on Postoperative Outcomes

Summary: This study compared postoperative outcomes of laparoscopic and open appendectomies for acute appendicitis in children under widespread use of laparoscopic surgery. Results showed that there were no significant differences in postoperative complications and length of hospital stay between pediatric patients who underwent laparoscopic or open appendectomy, regardless of complicated or uncomplicated appendicitis cases.
