The effect of ambient air plasma generated by coplanar and volume dielectric barrier discharge on the surface characteristics of polyamide foils

Vlasta Stepanova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the wettability and adhesion enhancement of polyamide foil surface through plasma treatment at atmospheric pressure using volume dielectric barrier discharge (VDBD) and diffuse coplanar surface barrier discharge (DCSBD). Both plasma sources significantly improved the wettability of the PA 6 foil surface immediately after treatment, with DCSBD showing more durable hydrophilic effects. XPS analysis revealed higher efficiency and increased surface oxidation with DCSBD, while tape peel test demonstrated adhesion improvement only with DCSBD. SEM did not show any notable surface damage after plasma treatments.
