Stratigraphic architecture of climate influenced hyperpycnal mouth bars

Ellen M. Melstrom et al.

Summary: The study investigates the process sedimentology of mouth bar deposition in relation to the seasonality associated with abrupt climate warming events during the early Eocene. Analysis of deltaic mouth bars in the Uinta Basin reveals a connection between depositional features and climatic events, with hyperpycnal currents depositing sediment tens of kilometres from the shoreline under specific flow conditions. The research suggests a link between upper-flow regime bedforms and the timing of climate warming events, expanding existing mouth bar depositional models.
