Does Empowering Women in Politics Boost Human Development? An Empirical Analysis, 1960-2018

Summary: The study shows that the political empowerment of women is positively associated with higher human capital, surpassing the effects of democracy and good governance. Interactions between gender empowerment and factors leading to higher child mortality suggest that empowerment conditions these known adverse factors in the direction of lower child mortality.
