Prediction of Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Korea, 2022

Kyu-Won Jung et al.

Summary: This study estimated the projected cancer incidence and mortality for the year 2022 in Korea. By using cancer incidence and mortality data from national databases, linear regression models were fitted to project the rates for different types of cancer. It is projected that there will be approximately 274,488 new cancer cases and 81,277 cancer deaths in Korea in 2022. Thyroid cancer is expected to be the most common cancer site, followed by lung, colon and rectal, breast, and stomach cancers. Lung cancer is the most common type leading to death.

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy versus Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy for Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer: A Propensity Score-Matched Analysis

Young Seob Shin et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally advanced pancreatic cancer. The results suggest that SBRT could be a feasible alternative to CCRT in treating LAPC patients.

High neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio following stereotactic body radiation therapy is associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic cancer

Abhinav Reddy et al.

Summary: The study reported the prognostic role of pre-and post-SBRT neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in patients with BRPC and LAPC. Post-SBRT NLR >_2.6 predicted inferior OS and LPFS in patients treated with multi-agent chemotherapy and SBRT, emphasizing the importance of further elucidating the immunologic effects of radiation therapy in this setting.

Post-radiation neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is a prognostic marker in patients with localized pancreatic adenocarcinoma treated with anti-PD-1 antibody and stereotactic body radiation therapy

Abhinav Reddy et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the role of pre- and post-SBRT neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in localized pancreatic cancer patients treated with anti-PD-1 antibody and SBRT. The results showed that elevated post-SBRT NLR was associated with worse survival outcomes, and larger clinical target volumes were associated with decreased post-SBRT lymphocyte count.

Medicine Trend Analysis and Prediction of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Korea

Hyeong Min Park et al.

Summary: Based on the cancer registry data in Korea, this study analyzed the epidemiologic features of hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers and predicted the future incidence and mortality rates. The study found that the annual incidence and mortality cases of these cancers are generally increasing, with pancreatic cancer being the leading cause of death.

Biological Principles of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and Stereotactic Radiation Surgery (SRS): Indirect Cell Death

Chang W. Song et al.

Summary: High-dose irradiation in SBRT and SRS induces tumor cell death through vascular damage and increased antitumor immunity, in addition to direct tumor cell killing. Additional research is needed to further investigate the mechanisms of normal tissue damage caused by high-dose irradiation.
