UK endoscopy workload and workforce patterns: is there potential to increase capacity? A BSG analysis of the National Endoscopy Database

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of endoscopy activity and workforce patterns in both the NHS and the independent sector in the UK. The results show that more than half of the endoscopists do not meet the minimum annual procedure numbers. It is recommended to develop a national strategy to address this issue and expand the nonmedical endoscopist workforce to increase endoscopy capacity.
