Severe Acute Localized Reactions Following Intra-Articular Hyaluronic Acid Injections in Knee Osteoarthritis

Kevin L. Ong et al.

Summary: The study compared surrogate SALR measures between hylan G-F 20 and non-hylan G-F 20 HA patients and evaluated corresponding SALR risk factors for hylan G-F 20 patients. Results showed a lower inflammation/infection rate but higher risk of CS injection for hylan G-F 20 patients within 3 days of HA use. Overall, the risk of surrogate SALR measures was similar for hylan G-F 20 and non-hylan G-F 20 HA patients.

Delay to TKA and Costs Associated with Knee Osteoarthritis Care Using Intra-Articular Hyaluronic Acid: Analysis of an Administrative Database

Andrew Concoff et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with knee osteoarthritis who received hyaluronic acid treatment experienced a delay in undergoing total knee arthroplasty compared to those who did not receive treatment. Moreover, patients who received hyaluronic acid treatment had lower KOA-related healthcare costs when eventually undergoing TKA. Multiple courses of hyaluronic acid treatment may be beneficial in delaying TKA and reducing healthcare costs for KOA patients.
