Environmental education, age, race, and socioeconomic class: An exploration of differential impacts of field trips on adolescent youth in the United States

Summary: The study found that younger, Hispanic, and lower socioeconomic status students showed more positive outcomes in environmental education. Differences in Hispanic populations may be partially attributable to survey response biases. Programs with non-White instructors tended to yield higher levels of satisfaction in groups where the student majority was non-White.

A culturally responsive evaluation framework and its application in environmental education

Summary: Despite the challenges in conducting high-quality evaluations in environmental education, there is a growing recognition of the importance of evaluation for program success and organizational learning. A culturally responsive evaluation framework is proposed to address issues of race, power, privilege, and inequity in the evaluation process in order to improve outcomes in the field of EE.

Investigating the relationships among students basic psychological needs, engagement, and environmental literacy at a residential environmental education center

Summary: By exploring the relationship between students' psychological needs fulfillment, engagement, and environmental literacy outcomes, we found that there is a positive relationship between the fulfillment of these needs and student engagement. More engaged students reported enhanced outcomes of environmental literacy. We also discovered that autonomy has a direct positive effect on student levels of environmental literacy.
