Designing a new multi-echelon multi-period closed-loop supply chain network by forecasting demand using time series model: a genetic algorithm

Shahab Safaei et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new multi-echelon multi-period model for designing closed-loop supply chain networks, aiming to optimize the networks by minimizing total costs. The model considers multiple levels, including suppliers, manufacturers, distribution centers, customers, and recycling units. The study also applies an ARIMA model to estimate product demand and improve service levels in the supply chain network.

Designing a sustainable closed-loop supply chain network considering lateral resupply and backup suppliers using fuzzy inference system

Mohsen Momenitabar et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the design of a Sustainable Closed-Loop Supply Chain Network (SCLSCN) considering the impacts of backup suppliers and lateral transshipment/resupply. A fuzzy multi-objective mixed-integer linear programming model is proposed to optimize total and environmental costs while increasing job opportunities. The concept of circular economy is also applied to reduce environmental effects. The results demonstrate that considering backup suppliers and lateral resupply can significantly decrease costs and reduce shortages in the SCLSCN.

Demand prediction for a public bike sharing program based on spatio-temporal graph convolutional networks

Guangnian Xiao et al.

Summary: The operation of public bike sharing programs faces various issues, with accurate short-term demand prediction being crucial for successful operation. STGCN outperforms other competitors in predicting demand accuracy. Despite longer training time compared to SimpleRNN, STGCN requires minimal epochs for convergence precision.

A global comparison of bicycle sharing systems

James Todd et al.

Summary: The increasing urban populations have led to pressures on transportation networks, resulting in the popularity of bicycle sharing systems (BSS) around the world. This paper marks a major step forward through its global comparison of 322 BSS schemes on all major continents, identifying 5 main types of BSS and grouping schemes by usage, contextual indicators, and user characteristics. This not only facilitates a global comparison of scheme performance but also offers a basis for new schemes to anticipate user demand.

A spatial analysis of demand patterns on a bicycle sharing scheme: Evidence from London

Craig Morton et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatial demand for bikesharing in London by applying trip generation models, finding that proximity to cycling infrastructure, rail stations, parks, universities, and shops, as well as density of conventional roads, are linked with trip generation rates. Males and Caucasians are associated with higher station demand, while greater distances to work tend to depress use.

Bikeshare and subway ridership changes during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City

Haoyun Wang et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the Citi Bike system and subway system in New York City, with bikeshare usage almost returning to normal while subway ridership remaining substantially below pre-COVID levels. The bikeshare system was found to provide resilience to the overall transportation system during disasters when public transit is considered dangerous or disrupted.

The interplay between dockless bikeshare and bus for small-size cities in the US: A case study of Ithaca

Waishan Qiu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interplay between a dockless bikeshare system and bus service in a small city, finding that the bikeshare system provides useful first- and last-mile transfers to bus service for commuters. The complementary effect is particularly strong in urban core areas and with specific land use areas, demonstrating the potential for integration of bikeshare and public transit services.
