Relationship between trunk control, core muscle strength and balance confidence in community-dwelling patients with chronic stroke

Suruliraj Karthikbabu et al.

Summary: This study revealed a significant and strong positive association among trunk control, core muscle strength, and balance confidence in community-dwelling chronic stroke survivors. Trunk performance variables had the greatest impact on balance confidence, with dynamic sitting balance being particularly important. Further investigation into targeted trunk rehabilitation strategies for improving functional balance is warranted.

Postural organization and inter-limb coordination are altered after stroke when an isometric maximum bilateral pushing effort of the upper limbs is performed

Anne-Violette Bruyneel et al.

Summary: The study found that stroke patients had lower maximal force on their paretic side during bilateral pushing, with poorer coordination compared to healthy controls. While there was good coordination in the anteroposterior forces, vertical force coordination was lacking, particularly at the handles and feet.
