A Quasi-Metal-Organic Framework Based on Cobalt for Improved Catalytic Conversion of Aquatic Pollutant 4-Nitrophenol

Minoo Bagheri et al.

Summary: By subjecting cobalt-based metal-organic framework TMU-10 to thermal treatment, purposely generated defects in the form of quasi-MOFs were employed as catalysts for the room-temperature reduction of 4-nitrophenol. Among these catalysts, QT-300 exhibited enhanced catalytic performance due to its unique micro and mesoporous structure.

Petroleum asphaltene-derived highly porous carbon for the efficient removal of pharmaceutical compounds in water

Melike Burcu Kabatas et al.

Summary: Highly porous carbons (PCs) were successfully developed from petroleum asphaltene through a KOH chemical activation process. These PCs showed efficient removal of pharmaceutical compounds from aqueous solution. The study investigated the effects of activation temperature and mixing types on the properties of PCs. The adsorption kinetics and equilibrium were analyzed using different models. The results showed that the PCs had high adsorption capacities for the pharmaceutical compounds, and the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models.

Enhanced catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles loaded into Fe3O4 nanoparticles towards reduction of 4-nitrophenol, degradation of organic dyes and oxidation of o-phenylenediamine

Melisew Tadele Alula et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the successful loading of silver nanoparticles onto pre-synthesized magnetic nanoparticles using ultrasonication, resulting in the formation of silver doped Fe3O4, which was directly confirmed through XRD and TEM. Indirect confirmation of AgNPs formation was achieved using surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy, and the enhanced catalytic activities of AgNPs/Fe3O4 compared to Fe3O4 alone were observed.
