Identifying tourist-functional relations of urban places through Foursquare from Barcelona

Summary: This study focused on quantifying the tourist-functional relations among Places of Interest (POIs) in Barcelona using Foursquare data, highlighting important functional connections between different types of POIs. By classifying POIs into categories and constructing a usage-flows matrix, the research identified dominant tourist usages and central functional locations. The results showed that, in addition to tourist attractions, restaurants, transport, and hotels play significant roles in the functional relationships of tourism.
